Junk Food Diet Puts Children at Higher Risk of Allergies

Scientists compared youngsters from a rural African village with another group living in Italy and found a dramatic difference.  The African children had less obesity-linked bacteria, and more fatty acids which protect against inflammation.

The diet of the African children was similar to that of people living in the modern Western world thousands of years ago.  Of the Italian children, only those who were still breast-feeding harbored bacteria resembling the African children’s.  The trillions of microbes that inhabit your gut help you to digest food, protect against disease-causing bugs and limit inflammation.

Alarm Over Cancer Risk from Colors in Common Foods

Alarming new scientific evidence shows that artificial colors found in thousands of foods may pose a risk of cancer, hyperactivity and allergic reactions.

The research, conducted by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), calls for common food colors to be banned.  CSPI said the colors were contaminated with known carcinogens and shown to cause cancer in rats.

The Sunday Mail reports:

“Each year, manufacturers pour almost seven million kilograms of artificial colors into common foods like breakfast cereals and biscuits, ice creams, cordials and confectionary, but many consumers have complained of adverse reactions for decades.” PostID=277297″
